Lovely earrings by handmade by Finland's Liisa Vitali. The motif is a rare version of Vitali's "lumikukka" or "snow flower" design which was produced in the 1970s by Nils Westerback Oy. The brightness of the silver is contrasted by the dramatically oxidized inside of the "petals". Each layer is connected by a small chain, giving the earrings a whimsical quality as well as a beautiful range of movement. The earrings are one of a kind, and made by Vitali herself. They are part of a collection previously owned by the Liisa Vitali estate.
Liisa Vitali was part of an avant garde group of jewellers who in the 1960s pushed Finland onto the international stage of design. Beginning her career at a young age, she developed her skills working alongside famed designer Tapio Wirkkala at the firm of Westerback Oy. Vitali's designs have become quintessentially Finnish - her original creations are still reproduced today.
