1970s Sterling Silver Tapio Wirkkala "Omena" Pendant
An exceptional necklace by celebrated Finnish designer Tapio Wirkkala produced by Kultakeskus Oy. The middle layer of the pendant has a whimsical hinged movement. Details such as the hammering of the silver and the primitive "cut-out" style of the silver have all been masterfully executed. Designed in the early 1970s, the piece was titled omena or "apple". The piece is striking in its modernity while harkening also to ethnographic sources which inspired Wirkkala.
