A rare ring by Finland's Liisa Vitali. This lovely design is titled "Kissantassujen" meaning "cats paws" which inspired the artist. The expressive detail that the self-taught Vitali is able to achieve with simple wire is remarkable. Vitali was always inspired by nature and other designs in this series resemble onions and clams.
Liisa Vitali was part of an avant garde group of jewellers who in the 1960s pushed Finland onto the international stage of design. Beginning her career at a young age, she developed her skills working alongside designer Tapio Wirkkala at the firm of Westerback Oy. Vitali's designs have become quintessentially Finnish - her original creations are still reproduced today.
