A wonderful handmade ring by Finland's Liisa Vitali. This remarkably rare piece bears resemblance to Vitali's "Gardenia" series which was produced in the 1970s by Nils Westerback Oy.
The ring features stacked silver discs which are raised off the band by a small post. The asymmetry of the discs and the hand-hammered finish lends an almost primitive feel to the piece.
The ring is one of a kind, and made by Vitali herself. It is part of a collection previously owned by the Liisa Vitali estate.
Liisa Vitali was part of an avant garde group of jewellers who in the 1960s pushed Finland onto the international stage of design. Beginning her career at a young age, she developed her skills working alongside famed designer Tapio Wirkkala at the firm of Westerback Oy. Vitali's designs have become quintessentially Finnish - her original creations are still reproduced today.
